Need a Way to Manage Subscriber Information? UnboundID Can Help
June 29, 2011
Cloud computing will continue to be one of the most-hyped platforms in the communications space, and with good reason. Vendors are increasingly releasing solutions to support businesses in the cloud and companies are rapidly adopting this platform.
One company making waves in this space is UnboundID (

Alert). To learn more about this cloud identity database company, TMC CEO Rich Tehrani recently talked with Andy Land, VP of Marketing at UnboundID, at the Cloud Expo 2011. Their conversation was captured in this
video.
To explain UnboundID, Land referenced companies like
Facebook or large cloud guys that try and store a lot of profile information; there is a lot of data to store, personal information – attributes.
This information must be stored in an extremely high scale performance database so that all applications you want to use will have the data to make smart decisions. Location is one example of an attribute. The company stores thousands of attributes.
Typical customers for UnboundID are telecommunications providers, AT&T (

In terms of growth, Land has seen the growth of smartphones drive growth for his clients. In addition, software providers are delivering SaaS (

As for the competitive climate in the
market, Land highlighted that a lot of cloud companies are new companies with strong development heritage. These companies tend to be able to manage their own attributes as a core competency. When companies do not have development as a core competency, UnboundID is a strong partner for them. One unified view of all information is difficult and yet these companies want to achieve that level.
When asked about security issues, Land highlighted that one of the things this company does very well is operate as an identity data base and offer
security at the data level. All information is fully encrypted and data at rest and data in motion policies are in place.
“Security is the number one detriment to the cloud, according to CIOs. We take this very seriously,” said Land.
As for the cloud iCloud announcement? “Anytime a market leader makes a major move it validates the industry,” shared Land. One thing he always asks is, ‘Are we on the fad line or the trend line?’ Cloud computing is not new. In fact, 90 percent of companies put their payroll in the cloud and it works. With so much data to manage, the opportunity is significant for UnboundID.
