Managed Services Providers (MSP), providing network administration, on-demand support and centralized services usually off premises to their end customers, have gained a larger foothold in the technology industry in recent years, particularly in the face of a crippling economy. MSPs manage all the Information Technology (IT) work for a client for a fraction of the cost, meeting network monitoring, remote data backup and network security needs. Revenue for the network management and appliance market grew by 9.1 percent from 2010 to total $2.5 billion in 2011. The International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts that the market will grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 7.5 percent to $4 billion from now to 2017. CA Technologies owned 13.1 percent of the market in the first half of 2011. Because of this, IDC announced today that they have named CA Technologies the market share leader in the worldwide network management software and appliance market.

A new study from Insight Research, market research firm for telecom industry, found that global business spending on managed services will increase at annual compounded rate of 14.7 percent. This is in spite of the fact that all telecommunications services will see a single-digit growth rate in the coming six years. The cost-effectiveness of investing in managed services is one of the leading factors behind the double-digit growth rate being predicted for the managed services sector. An increasing number of enterprises are backing off from investing in basic telecommunications and IT services during the slow economic growth period and prefer investing in managed services as opposed to expanding their internal staff.

A new study from CompTIA shows that nearly half of organizations using managed services have cut their annual IT expenses by 25 percent or more. The "Trends in Managed Services" study, published by the nonprofit CompTIA, found that 46 percent of organizations had cut their expenses. The study is based on separate online surveys of 400 IT and business professionals in the US involved in IT decision making, as well as 364 channel firms.
