DRFortress Extends Pacific Rim Coverage with Cloud Storage Solution from Nirvanix

December 05, 2011

Cloud storage service delivery is on the rise and the Pacific Rim is a particularly hot area of growth. Managed colocation services provider DRFortress is continually expanding to keep up with growth and demand, and has announced a new partnership with Nirvanix that will extend its position in Hawaii and across the entire Pacific Rim region.

DRFortress will deploy a Hybrid Cloud Storage solution from Nirvanix as part of the partnership, extending its Pacific Rim coverage area and becoming the ninth data center in the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Network.

“As the first provider of enterprise-grade object storage-based cloud services in Hawaii and the broader Pacific Rim region, DRFortress has a significant competitive advantage as it enters this market,” said Scott Genereux, president and CEO of Nirvanix. “Nirvanix’s proven cloud storage and DRFortress’ state-of-the-art data center and connectivity capabilities place DRFortress in a highly strategic position to post material market share gains in the coming year.”

The Hybrid Cloud Storage node will be based in Honolulu, enabling DRFortress to address demand from companies throughout the Pacific Rim to store critical business data both in Hawaii and on the U.S. mainland, as well as in Europe and the Asia Pacific region. This will enable DRFortress to facilitate enhanced business continuity and global data collaboration strategies.

Nirvanix offers rugged, second-generation technology that will enable DRFortress to offer clients enterprise-grade cloud storage designed from the ground up. The Nirvanix solution provides five nines of data availability and can support millions of users, billions and objects and exabytes of data.

The offering provides a private and local cloud storage node on the DRFortress data center premises, which also enables instantaneous cloud bursting, the ability to access and replicate to the eight other nodes that make up the Nirvanix network. This provides additional capacity and bandwidth as well as enhanced availability.

The Hybrid node will be managed as a service by Nirvanix, with DRFortress clients only paying for storage they actually consume through a pay-as-you-go model. The DRFortress services enable customers to maintain multiple live replicas of their data in multiple locations which they may choose. This satisfies both in-country and out-of-region data retention and compliance requirements.

“While many vendors are talking about hybrid clouds, Nirvanix is busy delivering them to customers,” said Steve Duplessie, founder and senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “With recent customer wins at Cerner, USC and IBM, this hybrid cloud deployment at DRFortress is another indicator that Nirvanix continues to execute with its highly differentiated cloud storage services.”

Nirvanix also provides secure and highly granular multi-tenancy software, which enables customers of DRFortress to create a sub-account for each branch office as well as equip offices with their own username and password, while providing direction on where exactly in the Cloud Storage Network specific data should reside.

“We believe that there is a billion dollar market opportunity for enterprise-grade cloud storage services in the Pacific Rim region by 2015 as customers look to reduce capital expenditures and move off of antiquated storage systems to modernize their backup and archival needs,” said Fred Rodi, president of DRFortress.

He added, “With the new DRFortress Cloud Storage Services, powered by Nirvanix, we are expanding our managed services portfolio with the recognized industry-leading solution, as recently validated by the world’s largest IT services company.  We also look forward to collaborating with Nirvanix’s partners such as CommVault and Symantec to provide our customers with ‘one click to the cloud’ access to our managed services.”
