Dome9 Offers Simplified Cloud Security Management for MSPs, Enterprises and SMBs
January 25, 2012
Managed cloud security firewall management had been simplified thanks to a new capability from Dome9 Security. The security provider for public and private clouds and dedicated and virtual private servers (VPS) has added a group-based firewall policy management option to its offering.
Dome9 Security Groups is now part of the company's cloud security management service and offers consolidated security management across multiple cloud servers and providers. The capability also provides unified policies for comprehensive and easily administered security management.
The new offering enables users to apply a single policy across an infinite number of servers and clouds instead of setting and managing policies for individual servers. Security Groups let administrators group servers under a single policy or set of policies in order to consolidate firewall policy management.
Servers may be grouped as “SSH on-demand for all SQL servers,” for instance, and may be added to any number of Dome9 Security Groups and moved around as needed. Users may also be granted secure access to a single server or to all servers within a Security Group.
“Security groups are an important way to implement some measure of security control within a cloud environment,” said Andrew Hay, senior security analyst at 451 Research. “As no single cloud platform or provider has emerged as the de facto standard, products like Dome9 can help extend an organization’s security policy and centralized management beyond its traditional perimeter regardless of chosen platform.”
This group-based policy management system may be applied across multiple servers and cloud hosting providers, enabling enterprises, SMBs and MSPs to consolidate management of multiple cloud servers under one umbrella Security Group. If additional cloud servers are added to the group, their policies are automatically inherited through the group profile.
The new capability is already available through the Dome9 solution, which is a monthly subscription service starting at around $20 per server per month. The company is offering a free, 14-day full-featured trial. A free personal use plan with support for one server with one administrator is also available.
“With Dome9 Security Groups, it’s easy to provide users the access they need, while simplifying cloud security management within and across platforms and cloud providers,” said Zohar Alon, co-founder and CEO of Dome9. “No other cloud security provider offers this kind of consolidated management – centralized security management not just across servers, but across clouds. Dome9 has pioneered the centralization and automation of cloud security, and our new Dome9 Security Groups showcases our continued innovation and leadership.”
